| Email scam alert   A number of members have reported receiving an email, purportedly from LWVAA co-president Joyce Jackson, saying something like, "I hope you are doing well? Do you have some free time today? I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know." The sender uses Joyce's name, but not her League email address. Do not reply to this email -- it is a setup for a gift card scam. No League leader will ever contact you by email or text to ask you to make purchases in aid of a project.
  If you receive an email from someone claiming to be from Joyce Jackson -- or from any League member -- that you suspect may be fraudulent:
 
 
    Do not reply to the suspect message.Pay close attention to the sender’s email address (if you're on a mobile device, tap the sender’s name to reveal the actual email address). If the sender’s address ends in @gmail.com, @outlook.com, or anything other than @lwvaustin.org, the request is most likely a scam.Do not click any links or call any phone numbers listed in the email.Contact the person who is named as the sender at a trusted email address or using a trusted phone number. You can send email to LWVAA board members using the links on the "Board Members" page or through the "Contact Us" page on our website.Delete the email. Before deleting, you can report this and other email scams at https://www.reportfraud.ftc.gov/. |
