Who can apply?

League members who are willing to bring their experience in the community, business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit world. Share your passion for empowering voters and defending democracy.

Board Member Responsibilities

Active Participation

Regularly attend and actively participate in Board meetings and calls. The board meets in the evening once each month. Between meetings, each board member assumes responsibilities for their area and may also chair committee meetings dependent on their role. Board members must be current members of LWVAA.

Governance and Due Diligence

Be well-versed in the organization's mission, programs, goals, finances, policies, by-laws, challenges, and possibilities. Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state and federal laws and monitor the board's own effectiveness, structure and roles.

Planning and Leadership

Ensure effective organizational planning in order to advance the mission and to carry out the program as adopted by the national convention, the state convention, and the annual meeting.

External Relations

Serve as an effective ambassador for the organization among diverse communities and encourage the growth of the LWVAA member base.
